Keauhou Shopping Center

Keahuou Shopping Center, Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i

Keauhou is the birthplace of chiefs and the birthplace of battles that changed Hawaiian history. It is a very powerful place, and with power comes responsibility. The mo‘olelo stories shown in the Mele Murals at Keauhou Shopping Center were translated to the murals on the walls with hopes that the next generations of youth were inspired by the messaging. These murals now stand as monuments, holding our precious stories until they are rediscovered and the stories are retold again and again. Each time our mo‘olelo are told, our people move forward as a community, and as a nation.
